Sustainable development not only supports our long-held pursuit of environmental excellence, it makes good business sense.
We have always been concerned about the environment, even before it was a widely-held notion. In fact, we were twice named "Environmental Builder of the Year," first in 2000. We developed one of the first, if not the first, wood-frame infill project at a Metro station in the D.C. market – The Montgomery at Wheaton Metro.
While our new developments are now being built to achieve LEED certification, we believe that being "green" is not simply receiving some form of certification. It's about smart growth, developing in areas which can sustain the impact of a new project, and adaptively reusing land and buildings whose use no longer suits the community.
